You may know “Tokyo”… but how much do you know about this city?

Tokyo is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and most popular city of Japan. Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government are located here.. it is literally a center of Japan👔✨

The total population of the prefecture is exceeding 13 million, which is over 10% of the total population of Japan 120 million. Many companies and schools are based in Tokyo, and that’s why especially younger generation prefer to live there. I am not an exception; I was born in Greater Tokyo area, went to high school and university in Tokyo, and worked in Tokyo until I moved to NYC. I love Tokyo💜

I am so happy that the numbers of tourists to Japan, mainly Tokyo from outside Japan has been increasing⤴︎✨. In 2015, Japan attracted over 20 million international tourists, which are approx. 150% of 2014. There are tons of sightseeing spots that it will take a while for me to share everything… but here is three historical places I highly recommend🐱👍

🌸Asakusa 浅草

Asakusa is one of the areas in Tokyo where you can enjoy an atmosphere of the Tokyo of past decades👘. Its main attraction is Sensoji (浅草寺), which is a very popular Buddhist temple built in the 7th century.🍵

🌸Hama-rikyu garden 浜離宮庭園

Tokyo has few Japanese traditional gardens, but Hama-rikyu garden is a beautiful garden located in the center of Tokyo🍃, 10 minutes walk from Tsukiji-shijo (築地市場) that is known for tuna auction🐟. When Prince William in UK visited Japan in 2015, this was his first place to visit.🇬🇧

🌸Imperial Palace 皇居

Imperial Palace is also located in the center of Tokyo🌿, 10 minutes walk from Tokyo station that will be your main transportation spot in Tokyo🚅. It is the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family on the former site of Edo Castle👑. You can enjoy a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls.🏯

As you may know, summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo in 2020!!!!!🏅✨✨

I will mention the details of 2020 Tokyo Olympics in my next article, and keep sharing related Tokyo Olympics news in this blog🎌✨

Don’t miss them👍👍

Tokyo has many interesting districts! I really liked Ueno (for the marketplace), Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro.
